Reading

Poetry@Smith's: Friday night

Our festival readings are taking place at Smith's Alternative, a relaxed, fully-licensed venue whose main room is ideal for enjoying poetry.

When Oscar Wilde penned ‘to define is to limit’, he may as well have been talking about poetry’s format loyalists. Yet the modern poetic age has more experimentation than ever before, born from artists critical of artificial divisions. Nowhere is this challenge more brazen than on stage.

If you think rock bands and symphony orchestras stand worlds apart but all slam poets are cut from the same cadence, then we welcome you to our performance evening with open arms. Featuring our finest trailblazers and genre-breakers, we invite you to explore performance as an integral part of poetry’s evolving nature.
